Cockroaches usually hide out during the day, preferring to come out of their sneaky little hiding holes when everyone has gone to bed. Sneak into the kitchen one night and flick the light on, if you’ve got cockies there is a good chance thats when you’ll see them.
Cockroaches are very mobile and can be brought into the home, office or factory in many ways. Cockroach eggs can be bought in on grocery boxes in shopping or even on yourself. They can fly in open doors, come through penetrations, drain pipes or just walk right in under the front door.
They thrive in dark damp warm places. Thats why they love your kitchen and laundry, behind the dishwasher, fridge and under the sink. Lots of food and water, the perfect breeding environments for cockroaches.
The main pest species in Australia are pictured.
As is the case with all pests, cockroaches need food, water and somewhere to live and thrive. Limiting these necesseties will help in the control of cockroaches. Think like a cockroach for a moment. Where are you going hide? Putty up all cracks and crevices. (no more gaps is easy to use) Remove or reduce as best as possible, all food and water available and you will have a better chance of getting on top of a cockroach problem. You have to be vigilant. Some times it can be difficult to get on top of the problem if the population has been left unchecked. Act before you have a problem. Prevention is much easier than the cure. Be hygienic, clean up after your midnight snack. Sweep the kitchen floor after dinner. Chances are once your seeing the roaches, their numbers are up.
