RATS!

RATS!

Mulch pile causing rat problems

Mulch piles like this are prime breeding grounds for rodents

Rats and Possums can make very similar noises whilst moving about in your ceiling.  A lot of clients have proclaimed “i’ve got possums in the ceiling” and it turns out to be Rats!  Then again a lot of clients have proclaimed “i’ve got rats in the ceiling” and its turned out to be Possums.  I believe rodents to be a greater danger than possums.  They gnaw on wiring and breed at phenomenal rates.

Did you know…

Female rats do not have a breading season, but actually come into heat every 4 – 5 days unless nursing or pregnant. A female can have between 6 and 24 pups per litter and a litter approximately every 6 weeks. Do the math!

Control

  • Removal of food and water sources i.e. pet food, food scraps etc. remove nesting and places to hide such as the pile of mulch pictured.
  • Prune any vegetation within two meters of your house/roof/gutter. Rats can jump 1.4m horizontally and 750mm vertically.
  • Fresh quality baits refreshed at least every six months.
  • Place baits in your ceiling and in lockable weather-proof bait stations around your property.
  • If you’re not baiting by the time you notice the rats, the colony may have grown to a considerable size, potentially damaging your property and definitely stinking it up!
